A/Prof Colin Chan is a highly experienced cataract and refractive surgeon. He is an internationally recognised expert in vision correction procedures, including laser eye surgery (LASIK, SMILE® and ASLA/PRK), refractive lens exchange and lens implant. He has extensive experience in cataract surgery and was one of the first surgeons in the world to perform laser cataract surgery. A/Prof Chan also specialises in the treatment of corneal conditions, with a focus on keratoconus, pterygium and dry eye. He has expertise in techniques such as corneal ring implants (using Intacs and Kerarings) and corneal transplants, and was one of the first surgeons in the world to perform collagen cross-linking for keratoconus.
After completing a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery with Honours at the University of Melbourne, A/Prof Chan became a medical and surgical registrar at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne. He then undertook ophthalmic surgery training at The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital, before completing a fellowship in corneal and laser eye surgery at the Boxer Wachler Vision Institute in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles and at the University of California, Irvine. A/Prof Chan is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Faculty of Health at the University of Canberra and a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sydney. A/Prof Chan has published over 30 peer-reviewed publications and is on a number of academic committees, including the Ocular Therapeutics Committee at the Australian College of Optometry, and the Human Research and Ethics Committee and the Registrar Training Program Committee at RANZCO.
