Dr Mark Jacobs


Dr Mark Jacobs is an experienced general ophthalmologist who treats a range of eye conditions, including glaucoma and pterygium. He also specialises in laser cataract surgery and was one of the first surgeons in Australia to perform laser cataract surgery, using the first femtosecond laser in the country. He is a member of staff at Sydney Children’s Hospital and a conjoint senior lecturer at the University of New South Wales.


Dr Jacobs qualified as an ophthalmic surgeon at Sydney Eye Hospital in 1989. He then worked in London, where he was a fellow at the Hospital for Sick Children and Moorfields Eye Hospital. After qualifying as an ophthalmologist, he attained a doctorate in medicine (MD, University of New South Wales) for original research of international standing. He has been a co-supervisor of both PhD and master’s thesis students. Dr Jacobs has published over 30 articles in peer-reviewed ophthalmology journals and presented at international ophthalmology meetings. In the past, Dr Jacobs has been invited to review grant applications for the Ophthalmic Research Institute of Australia and journal articles for the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Ophthalmology.
