With over 16 years of experience, Dr Tess Huynh is a highly respected cataract, corneal and refractive surgeon who is actively involved in research, teaching and charity work. She is one of the most experienced laser cataract surgeons in Australasia, with expertise in all of the available laser platforms. Her significant expertise with cataracts allows her to perform both routine cataract surgery, as well as more complex cataract surgery for patients with co-occurring eye conditions.
Dr Huynh also specialises in corneal conditions – she has a particular interest in collagen cross-linking to treat keratoconus, pterygium surgery using autografting, and corneal transplantation, including all lamellar surgery. In addition, Dr Huynh performs laser eye surgery (LASIK, SMILE and ASLA/PRK) and treats more general eye conditions. She was awarded the Pharmacia Grant for establishing a retinopathy-of-prematurity screening program at the National Paediatric Hospital in Hanoi, Vietnam, in conjunction with an honorary position at the Royal Children’s Hospital International Charity Organisation.
Dr Huynh received her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Sydney. She completed her ophthalmology training at The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, before undertaking a Corneal Fellowship at the Centre for Eye Research Australia, Victoria. Dr Huynh’s teaching positions include Clinical Lecturer at Macquarie University Hospital and Lecturer for the Master of Refractive Surgery program at the University of Sydney. She also lectures at certification courses for national and international ophthalmologists and sits on the College Board of Examiners for the RANZCO Ophthalmic Basic Competencies and Knowledge (OBCK) exam. Dr Huynh has a passion for helping the less privileged and has been involved in charity work in Australia, Vietnam, Cambodia and the Philippines. She has been actively involved as a volunteer surgeon and fundraiser for the Vietnam Vision Project since 2006. Other organisations that Dr Huynh volunteers for include Australian Health and Humanitarian Aid/Rotary Club, Cambodia Vision, Sight For All and Christian Blind Mission International. Dr Huynh presents extensively at conferences in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
